What is mastery learning?
Mastery learning is a teaching method focused on helping students achieve a deep understanding of a subject by ensuring they have mastered each concept before moving on to the next. Educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom observed that students taught individually with a mastery learning approach learned 2 standard deviations (aka 2 sigmas) faster than students in a traditional classroom environment. These results have been replicated in other studies, and this phenomenom is now known as Bloom's Two Sigma.
As part of Alpha School, which has seen similar results with its students, the team behind SAT Leveling has built a mastery learning system for the SAT to help you achieve your goal score in the shortest amount of time.
How are you different from free options like Collegeboard or Khan Academy?
While Collegeboard and Khan Academy are great resources, many students still seek out additional paid resources to help them achieve their highest score possible, which will maximize their chances of admission to their dream schools.
Here are some features that SAT Leveling provides over Collegeboard and Khan Academy.
- More SAT mock exams: A common complaint about Collegeboard and Khan Academy is that they don't have enough SAT mock exams. SAT Leveling has near infinite full-length, adaptive SAT mock exams checked for accuracy by experts.
- More questions: On Collegeboard and Khan Academy, students often also run out of questions to practice, especially when they want to devote extra time to a particular domain that they are weak at. SAT Leveling has a near infinite question bank so you can get as much practice as you want for any domain, skill, or difficulty.
- Personalized study plan: SAT Leveling creates a personalized study plan specifically designed for your current abilities to help you progress to your goal score.
How are you different from other SAT prep options like Acely?
While we've used Acely ourselves and think it's a great product, we've built SAT Leveling with some key differences. For example, we have a much larger question bank that prevents you from running out of questions to do, an educator dashboard for parents or tutors to see a student's activity and progress, as well as our very own Very Hard difficulty of SAT questions to specifically help already high scorers achieve perfect scores.
Our platform is also built with a science-backed mastery learning approach that helps you achieve your goal scores in the shortest amount of time.
Is this better than getting a private tutor?
While private tutoring is an effective way of preparing for the SAT, it can be very expensive, costing $50 to $500 an hour for experienced tutors. We believe SAT Leveling provides better value, guaranteeing high scores at a fraction of the cost.
However, even if you do choose to use a private tutor, you may still need access to a source of questions and mock tests to practice with, which SAT Leveling supplies.
How does the money-back guarantee work?
We are so confident in our science-backed mastery learning approach that we offer a money-back guarantee. If you do not score at least 1400, or don't improve your original score by 200 points, and you can prove that you have put in the required amount of effort, we will refund your entire subscription.
Required effort consists of completing at least 300 XP (~5 hours) a week for at least 12 weeks, and completing at least 1 mock test per 2 weeks for 12 weeks. Terms and conditions apply.

Who is the team behind SAT Leveling?
SAT Leveling was created by a team of engineers and educators at Alpha School, a technology-powered private school based in Texas dedicated to 3 things: helping kids learn to love school, teaching 2x the material in half the time, and imparting life skills like public speaking, coding, and entrepreneurship to the next generation.
